   You can just set your IM settings to save your conversations in a text file or rtf file. You don’t need to download anything.

   I know that each IM program has the capability to turn on ‘history’ so you can keep a log of all conversations on your pc.

   Most IM programs keep a history somewhere, just look through the options. Otherwise, get a keylogger. It won’t help the past, but once installed it will create a file that shows everything typed on the keyboard.
